Michael’s Top 10 Games of 2012

Top 10
Last year, 2011, was a tough act to follow. Not only did we have oddball new IPs like Catherine, but we were also graced by titles like the bloody brilliant reboot of Mortal Kombat and the nigh-perfect Batman: Arkham City. It was a year that kept me regularly pleased with its quick releases. Such success almost damned 2012 to feeling inferior by comparison. To an extent, it sort of was, but the unpredictability of my favorite games was the true standout. If someone had traveled through time and showed me my top list of 2012, I’d probably laugh and call them a liar. Well, at least in my head because I’m not a dick. Little did I know that 2012 would have some fantastic surprises.

Eric’s Top 5 Games of 2012

banner It’s that time of year everybody! You know, that time when we crank up the heater, regret all those Christmas cookies and wax how great and/or shitty a year it was. With that kind of reflection you just know that there will be all sorts of inane “Top X Whatever” lists. Well, I had a pretty good year and I’ve actually lost weight recently (seriously, my skinny jeans fit and everything!), but I will have to make a Top Games of 2012 list.

2012 was a pretty awesome year in gaming for me. Admittedly, for the first half of the year I pretty much just played with the abused dying prostitute known as  the PSP, but once spring came around all bets were off; it was a pretty back heavy year, so many of these are from the last few months. Without further ado, here is my top five games of 2012. Why only five? Because I have rigorous standards, and not just any game gets on my list! That and I mooch most of my new games from Kevin and Michael, so I didn’t play a whole lot of new games until a few months ago.

My Favorite Games of E3 2012

Any person into video games has undoubtedly been glued to YouTube or their favorite gaming site in hopes of absorbing anything related to E3. This year’s extravaganza is strictly in the rear view mirror now, but times like this allow us to reflect on the insanity of the past week. Games were at the forefront of this show, making for one of the best expo I’ve ever seen. So what were the biggest names in my humble opinion? Funny you should ask…

Playstation Vita’s Must Have Games

It’s not often when a console’s launch (or launch window for that matter) has more than one game worth a crap. Think about it. You didn’t buy your Xbox 360 in hopes of sinking a ridiculous amount of hours in Kameo: Elements of Power, nor did you buy a PS2 in anticipation of endless Smuggler’s Run sessions. So I find it odd that the upcoming Sony Playstation Vita has so many games that I really want to get my hands on. While the price is actually pretty attractive (and this might seem hypocritical) and the games look good, I won’t be buying one at launch. I can just smell a fresh redesign with a bigger battery or a price drop (or both) at least year later, so I’m going to hold out. Just because I’m not buying one at launch (I say that now, I wonder if I can actually hold out) doesn’t mean I can’t drool over the many games I can’t wait to try. You should keep an eye on these too.

A Look into 2012’s Biggest Games

When I sat down and compiled a list of my favorites from 2011, I was unsure of what was to come after that deluge of games. Everything is out, now what? I thought 2011 was at or above even 2009’s almost flawless quality of titles, but where does that leave 2012? This new year was looking a little weak at first, but after some thinking, I noticed that 2012 has its own share of (hopefully) stunning titles.

My Top 10 Favorite Games From 2011

In scientific terms, I believe a “metric shit ton” would be the appropriate phrase to describe the amount of games that flooded the market this year. They weren’t flukes either, as some unbelievably amazing titles far outshadowed the crappy wastes of time. As one is to do at the end of the year, I’ve compiled my ten favorites that I played this year in an ever-so-cliche list. So without further ado… Continue reading

Top 10 Mortal Kombat Fatalities

Mortal Kombat has been sucking away more of my time than I’d like to admit. I can’t help that I think that the game is that damn good.
At the end of every match, given you don’t do this (don’t lie, you totally do), you get to pull off a rather disturbing and incredible fatality. I thought I’d use my many hours on the game to compile a list of my favorite fatalities in the game. While 95% of them are over the top and awesome, these are my personal favorites. Obviously these spoil what happens, so avert your gaze if you, like me, like to find these yourself.
