Friday News Recap: 2/18 – 2/24

I’ve been rather puzzled on how to report on the news in this fine industry. I don’t want to flood the feed with every delay or every time Capcom does some stupid, but I don’t want to leave my thoughts to myself on the current events because that’s just selfish. With some thinking, I came up with the idea of just posting a weekly recap of news I care about with a brief paragraph with each link.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Review

Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360
Release Date: November 8, 2011

These HD Collections can be a quick reminder of how much you loved a game when it was first released. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD is a great example of that, along with the recent God of War Collections. I loved them back then and these recent revisits were a pleasant reminder. However, it can utilize that same quickness to point out how poorly the game has aged in the years since it released. Platinum Hunt: The Darkness II

I’m a certified whore… well, trophy whore that is. I’ve got a penchant for these worthless digital goods so I decided to give these some sort of feature. The Darkness II Review

Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, PC
Release Date: February 7, 2012

Let’s face it: video games are power fantasies. We don’t play them to do laundry, fail math tests, or clean up dog poop. Hell no. We want explosions, large combos, double jumps, gory disembowelments, and other actions absent from our daily routine. The Darkness II, the follow up to 2007’s success, is a first-person shooter that fully understands this proposition. With the ancient power of the Underworld to back you up, The Darkness II is a Hell of a lot of fun to play.

Platinum Hunt: Batman: Arkham City

I’m a certified whore… well, trophy whore that is. I’ve got a penchant for these worthless digital goods so I decided to give these some sort of feature. As I get a platinum trophy, I’ll comment how it was to get, how much I hated it, or why I just gave up on it. I may dabble with old titles that I’ve already completed or go on with my ever expanding trophy cabinet.

While forty-eight may not be a landmark number, my forty-eighth platinum trophy could not have gone to a better game. Batman: Arkham City was easily my Game of the Year for 2011, so retrieving trophies for the eventual platinum was similar to eating a good cake; I did it as slowly as I could so it would take as long as possible.
